Cox Baptisms in St Giles in the Fields 1760-1794

Page history last edited by Jon 14 years, 8 months ago

The following Cox baptisms were noted during a search of the parish registers for St Giles in the Fields covering the period 1760 to 1794. At the time this was not the main focus of our search and it is possible that there are additional entries that we have missed (as well as the issue of pages which are almost impossible to read in the microfilmed version of the registers but which may be more legible in the original).

In a number of cases the letter P appears after a baptism, possibly as an indication that the parents were poor.

There were a number of problems in transcribing the entries listed on this page. Tight bindings meant that it was often difficult to read the last words for an entry on the left hand side of the register - or that it was difficult to read the date on the right hand side of the register (the reason behind so many dates above being given with a question mark). A number of pages were almost unreadable and on one occasion (in March 1766) some entries were obscured by a folded piece of paper (with no microfilm scan of the entries behind).

Footnotes

  1. The date for this entry was not recorded by me (human error!) when I transcribed these entries but falls between 13th March 1763 and 12th April 1764.
